I went to college and got a bachelors degree in Communications- but like many others I had no desire/direction/any idea on what I wanted to do after school. It wasn't until applying for jobs in the "real-world" right after graduating that I soon realized:
- I did not want to spend all day inside 4 walls under artificial lighting, sitting in someone else's office- & staring outside wishing I could be there. I wanted to be mobile and have the ability to explore the outdoors of my city each & every day!
- I did not want to be surrounded by "default" co-workers where I had no say on who I was going to be working with/next to- I wanted to pick WHO I worked with at all times.

And no matter how much I would be getting paid- it would never be worth losing the freedom to do what I wanted, when I wanted- just like you would always give up when working for another person/company. I wanted a business with NO CEILING on my income, that I could take or scale in any direction, that follows & grows in accordance to how much I MYSELF learn & grow as a person.
It's just a simple, genuine business that requires hard work & rewards for it greatly- just as anything else worth having would.
Hard work pays off. Find your niche, market to those customers, build your list up, and set your recurring income! The mows are locked in every week or 2 weeks- so the bread & butter monthly revenue is locked in as I build my routes, offer simple upsells, and scale my business higher.

You do not need a brick & mortar storefront- you can operate out of your home with only a vehicle and your lawn equipment! You are extremely mobile & light on your feet.

You do not have to deal with people on a daily basis! (The only time you will really talk is when landing a new customer- after that they are locked on the schedule.) Around 99% of my customers pay online, so I simply slice through all of my routes each day without having to stop or talk to anyone. If you choose to have a helper- then that will be the only person you talk to! I like keeping to myself, and I like working at my own pace so I choose to mainly work solo.

When running full capacity, I have 40-50~ paying customers that all have a small, equal stake in my income- vs one hourly/salary job. If a customer lets me go- I have 39-49~ other customers still paying me + 1000's of surrounding houses to replace that customer with!
- Is it perfect? No- as nothing is. There will always be a pro & con to what we pick. One thing I learned: don't waste time CHASING perfection, when you can be DOING something now which actually moves the needle. Lawn care in itself has shown me that I am fully capable of providing for myself & those around. As long as you like the smell of fresh cut grass, the sound of 2-stroke engines whining & throttling up, and you're a hustler with work ethic to match- then you can make it happen just like I did 💰

I'm 27, an only child, and was born in San Francisco before moving to San Antonio around age 2. Growing up I didn't play any sports- I just spent all my time skateboarding & always enjoyed being in nature. After high school- I began realizing how introverted & analytical I was becoming, so I had to think of a career/way to make money that would allow me to cater to my strengths. I liked being outside, I liked working on my own, and I wanted to make a ton of money while still being able to control my schedule.
Growing up- my parents operated (and still do) a good size tree trimming & landscaping business & use 3-4 workers at a time. They make great money, and wanted me to take it over when I was done with school. I never quite felt right "taking it over"- I always wanted to build something on my own. On top of that, money or not- I didn't want to be completely reliant on workers at all times. I just wanted a simple way where I could make my own money & ride off into the sunset!
I had observed enough of their business over the years, I've mowed yards for some of their customers when I was 16 (against my will lol- my mom made me do it), so I knew how to mow a basic yard. I had their old beat-up tools sitting in the garage, so I decided one day just to post an ad for basic lawn mowing on Craigslist. I posted that ad while I was sitting at a table in the Vietnamese restaurant I was working at (server was my last job before going all in on lawn care)
From that ad, I got a call the very next day for my first customer! It was a lady across the neighborhood from mine, she had a small overgrown yard w/ shredded dog toys all over the yard. She asked how much to mow it- I said $45 because it was a foot tall. She said "great let's do it!" Then she asked how much to clean up the dog toys- I said (caught off-guard) "Uh.. $20 additional? She said "perfect can you do it tomorrow?" I said I sure can and boom I was there the next day.
From that job, I made $65 in around 75 minutes and the 💡 moment went off. I just made what took me 5-6 hours cleaning the noodles off of tables in almost one hour... and I had FUN while doing it. I got to pull up in my parents truck, I got to use these badass power tools, and I controlled the entire job! My priority became getting more customers- and within a month I matched my monthly serving income & quit that job in a heartbeat. Ever since then I have spent the past 5 years operating my lawn care business- learning something new each & everyday. This business has taught me more & given me so much more confidence than my entire time spent in college. I have real-world skills from first hand experience, I know how to provide myself, and I know how to build & maintain a business from scratch.
